You then write research on the topic, using a Candidate Research Notes sheet, and plan what to do, coming up with a suitable hypothesis. Your Candidate Research Notes must not contain draft texts for Stage 2, so keep your research brief and in note form.
You could scribble down the table headings and possible units, but don't draft a table - that's not allowed. When we remove the force, we're left with a permanent extension. Below the elastic limit, we say that the spring is showing " elastic behaviour ": the extension is proportional to the force, and it'll go back to it's original length when we remove the force.
Note: Because 'stress' and 'strain' are (uniquely) related to force and extension, it is not surprising that the two graphs, stress v/s strain and force v extension, have similar shapes and characteristics. (Of course, there is a quantitative difference because the units of plots on the two graphs are different.).
